“I can go and join a community of other black women, and immediately the first thing that we do is just support, and there’s just love, because we have been taught to hate ourselves for so long. We are getting to a point that having natural hair is accepted, and not being told that having braids or having locks makes it unprofessional, and you won’t be able to get a job, or that you won’t be able to get a job because your name sounds too ghetto, you know? There’s a lot of love and there’s a lot of acceptance, and there’s a lot of support to uplift ourselves. ”
